LIT 1253 Greatest Books in Medeival Literature (3)

Christian culture reaches a high point in the thirteenth century, a century in which we find such great Saints as Dominic Guzman, Francis of Assisi and Anthony of Padua among a host of others including the King, St. Louis, who held the temporal sword of Christendom.

Experience an immersion in high Christian culture in Dante's Divine Comedy and in selected works of Shakespeare and Chaucer; encounter the daring of Christian kings in The Song of Roland and of her champions, such as El Cid and the men gathered every Pentecost around the table of King Arthur, and envision the highest sanctity of her saints artistically woven into the tapestry of the liturgical year from the early Middle Ages up to the dissolution of Christendom. [Prerequisite: English 1153]
