Saint Thomas began this fourth part of the Summa, but only completed questions dealing with penance before he was taken to his heavenly reward. The remainder, known as the "Supplement", was compiled, most likely, by Fra Rainaldo da Piperno, who was his friend and colleague. Fra Rainaldo utilized Thomas' commentry of Book Four of Peter Lomard's Sentences
to complete the Summa.
