Mieszko II (990-1034)

Mieszko II did not enjoy the success of his namesake. He succeeded to the throne of his father Boleslaw Chrobry and the Slavic Princess Eminilda in 1025. Rather than engaging alliances with Germany to bolster activity in the East, he engaged in wars with both Germany and Russ. A weakened position opened the way for competition to the crown with his older brother Bezprym. Consequently, Mieszko, under this insurmountable pressure, abdicated.
